James Purdey & Sons     Double Barrel 14-bore Percussion Fowler with 36" barrels built for Charles Gordon in 1904.   

Description: 36" SxS swamped-rib barrels of Sir Joseph Whitworth's Fluid Compressed Steel choked cylinder & cylinder, 14 1/2"pull from front trigger to blued steel buttplate. Built on the pattern of a circa-1830 Manton patchlock: hammers with antediluvian detachable strikers, platinum safety vents, silver watertable, fine scroll engraved. Figured walnut stock with straight grip, splinter forend, broad trigger guard bow & pineapple finials, twin fire-blued crosspin fasteners, point-pattern checkered at the wrist, but smooth on the forend. Weight: 10lbs, 2oz. Extra hammers, mainsprings & nipples in double-covered dovetailed oak boxes. Hawksley leather-covered measuring flasks for powder and shot, 4 turnscrews, 5 nipple tools, 3 cleaning rods with innumerable tips, oil bottle, cap box, etc. All in fitted case of figured quarter-sawn oak with flush-fitted brass corners and heavy hand-stitched leather overcase. A true one-of-a-kind firearm built out-of-period in 1904 for Charles Gordon, with factory letter, unfired.
