24 1/2" SxS .500-.416 monoblock barrels with quarter rib, single standing express sight, swivel stud and Zeiss Diavari-ZM 1.25-4x24 T* scope with tapered post and crosshair reticle on quick-detachable claw mounts. 24 1/2" SxS 8x75RS monoblock barrels with full matted solid rib, single standing express sight, swivel stud and Zeiss Diavari-ZM 2.5-10x48 T* scope with duplex reticle on quick-detachable claw mounts. 15"pull from articulated front trigger to thin black Pachmayr Old English pad. Figured walnut stock with classic point-pattern checkering, beaded pancake cheekpiece, steel pistol grip cap engraved with a cape buffalo and two semi-beavertail forends. The weight of a rifle ought to bear some kind of relationship to the recoil of the cartridge for which it is chambered. And, when building two sets of barrels for a double rifle for different cartridges, the action, as well as the entire rifle ought to be built stout enough for reliable durability with the heavier of its chamberings. Furthermore, the gunmaker is constrained by the fixed spacing between the two firing pins. So, the barrels for the smaller diameter cartridge will necessarily have more steel, at least in the breech end, than those for a heavier cartridge. Even so, the 500/416 barrels alone, weigh 6lbs 2 1/2oz. The 8x75 barrels weigh 3lbs, 14 1/2oz. In spite of fixed spacing at the breech, this weight differential is achieved by adjusting the barrel taper. The 416 barrel walls at the muzzles measure (with a dial gauge) .133 inches. The 8x75 barrels measure .064 inches. This set, I think, does an admirable job of balancing the weights of two rather different cartridges upon a common stock and action.
