General Meeting Fall 2013

The President opened the meeting and thanked Jen and Terry Milton for cooking and food prep, Art Andersen for providing shop tools for our demo, and also Marilyn Lund for doing our news letter.

Treasurers Report: Same as last will report in Spring.

Membership: 92 members as of fall 2013

Library: The library has bought 3 of Mark Aspery’s book #3 on joinery and has replaced the missing books.  Please return your books so we can have this great resource.

A new safety policy (adapted from the California Blacksmithing Association) has been implemented by the Board to allow for liability insurance. Insurance for NRBA shows is still in the works to find the best bid.

ABANA Blacksmith Curriculum: So far 8 people have signed up to become NRBA volunteer  instructors.  Possibility for 2 more people to join for a total of 10 people max.  The initial training class with Mark Aspery will be the week before spring conference and then carry through to conference.  The instructors training (fee to be decided) comes with an 40 hr obligation of instruction of what was taught.

Board members term has come up and three of the existing members are stepping down from there positions.  We need to get back to 5 board members. Ben made a motion that 2 board members should do 3 year terms, 3 should do 2 year terms. The motion carried. We have been operating with 4 for the last 2 years and need to get back to 5.

Nominees for new board members are, Rob Detlaff, Hial Steele, Duane Bomar, Dean Ellis, Jem Bluer, Scott Roberts & Martin Hildreth. Nomination period is open for another 30 days from the meeting.

Frank A will call nominees before the election is to take place to see if they are interested in there nominations.

Trailer: we need someone to take a look at the rear right trailer lights that have been an issue for the last four years.

Frank A. informed about the "Blacksmithing is Art" demo in Cody in August. Steve Fontanini, Duane Bomar, Annette Lavalette, and Frank A forged a horse sculpture as a joint project with the Buffalo Bill Museum. The event was privately financed by the 4 participants.

Spring conference will be at Frank and Annette's in Roscoe, MT.
