Alexander Henry Cased Pair Hammerless Sidelock Underlever Double Rifles .450 BPE

Both rifles: 28" SxS
dovetailed, Henry-rifled, barrels of browned damascus steel with flat,
hand-matted rib, fine beaded blade front sight, sling eye, one standing
and one folding platinum-lined express sight. Exhibition walnut stocks, intricately burled in the butt, with lever-release splinter forend, steel trapdoor pistol grip cap, classic point-pattern checkering, double-beaded pancake cheekpiece, sling eye, gold oval bearing original owner's name / 1888, and steel heel and toe plates, checkered within. Fine scroll engraved, hammerless, back-action sidelock with prominent cocking indicator revealing COCKED inlaid in gold, cocking on opening of the Jones underlever and with automatic top tang safety with inlaid SAFE. All components numbered 1 & 2---even inside the forend wood and on the initial ovals. Serial numbers 6271 & 6272. Patent use numbers 151 & 152. Each in original maker's oak & leather case with tin oil bottle and boxwood striker bottle with extra specifically-designated strikers, and maker's leather trade label, bearing original owner's name, John Gilmour, Montrave, and the gun number on the lid. Dimensions, both: Pull: 14 3/8". Drop: 1 3/4 - 2 3/4. Cast-off 1/2". Weight: 8lb, 12oz. Condition, both: 98% barrel brown. Traces original casehardening colors. Very fine bores. Tight on the face. Cases in very fine condition. Built for Col. John Gilmour 1845 - 1920, created 1st Baronet of Lundin & Montrave by Queen Victoria in 1897. With biographical material. $48,450. |
