Dakota Arms   Model 76 Classic   .270 Winchester

The above photo shows the magazine-floorplate in place. It appears to open like an Argentine Mauser, hinged at the front and with a release catch inside the triggerguard bow.

The below photo shows the magazine-floorplate assembly, partially removed. What had appeared to be a hinge, is actually a dovetailed key, fittting just into a recess at the forward end of the solid bottom metal. It is released in the normal way---by pushing forward on the catch inside the triggerguard. But, rather than hinging downward at the front, it tilts downward a bit and then can be removed entirely.

24" tapered round barrel. Figured claro walnut stock with ebony forend tip,

beaded cheekpiece, classic borderless wrap-around point-pattern checkering

and original black recoil pad. Dakota action with Timney trigger, detachable

box magazine resembling hinged straddle floorplate, non-standard rounded

top tang and Model 70-type safety. 13 3/4" pull. Weight: 7lbs, 5oz.

Prototype for a contract with Beretta. 99%+blue.    $3995.
