Gunmakers' Touchmarks

A craftsman's signature stamp, discretely placed to identify his work.  The following is a selection of touchmarks and other makers' characteristic signatures 

    Tom Burgess, Metalsmith. B with the date.

   Jules Bury, Belgian gunmaker

    Norman B Fashingbauer, Stockmaker. Stamped under buttplate

    Chad Fossum, custom stockmaker at Shiloh Sharps

       Josef Fugger, Engraver (signature)

    Alfred Wyss-Gallifent, late master gunmaker, Warrington, PA

       Dale Goens signature; and signature checkering pattern

    Gary Goudy, master stockmaker, normally stamped inside the barrel channel

    Martin Hagn, full-charge gunmaker and designer of the Hagn falling block action. (Touchmark stamped as a cartouche in a dollop of inset gold)

    Stephen R. Heilmann, metalsmith and stockmaker (characteristic markings)

    Darwin Hensley, stockmaker.

  Steven Dodd Hughes, metalsmith and stockmaker (touchmark stamped as a cartouche in a bit of inlaid gold)

       Rudolph Kornbrath, engraver (signature)

    Joseph Manton, London gunmaker. (Touchmark stamped as a cartouche in a dollop of inset platinum)

       John Martz, builder of custom Luger pistols (MSTR: Martz Safety Toggle Release on left; touchmark, on right)

     Leonard Mews, stockmaker

    Peter Nelson, English gunmaker

    Robert G. Owen, gunmaker and stockmaker (his "signature" arrowhead)

   Sedgeley, Philadelphia

    Thomas Shelhamer, stockmaker; independent and to Niedner Rifle Co.

      William Sukalle, barrelmaker. Top of barrel marking on left. Under chamber touchmark on right.

    Herman Waldron, metalsmith (characteristic markings)
